About
I no longer work for mixi. This page will be updated when I get around to it.
Hi! I’m Toru Maesaka.
I spend a lot of time promoting and writing open source software and technology. I work in the Research and Development Group at Mixi, a Japanese company that runs the largest social network in Japan. Despite my position, I consider myself a software engineer that love to get upfront and promote things that could help people create value in modern society. I also maintain my family domain.
I was born in Kobe, Japan and I currently live in Tokyo. I lived in New Zealand from 1990 to 2006 and I graduated from the University of Otago with a degree (and a little more) in Computer Science. These days I fly between the U.S. and Japan quite a bit for work related events. So I guess I’m an occasional time traveller that combats jetlag.
When I’m not working or reading, I usually workout at the gym, take photos, invest or go out eating. I’m not a big drinker but enjoying a bottle or two of nice wine with friends is always great!

Here’s a list of open source projects that I’m involved with (alphabetical order).
