Hi! I’m Toru Maesaka.

I spend a lot of time advocating and writing open source software and technology. I work for Google but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own. Previously I was employed by Mixi, a Japanese company that runs the largest social network in Japan. My passion is to get upfront and advocate technology that could help people and businesses create value in modern society. I also maintain my family domain.

I was born in Kobe, Japan and I currently live in Tokyo. I lived in New Zealand from 1990 to 2006 and I graduated from the University of Otago with a degree (and a little more) in Computer Science. These days I fly between the U.S. and Japan quite a bit for work related events. So I guess I’m an occasional time traveller that combats jetlag.

When I’m not working or reading, I usually workout at the gym, take photos, invest or go out eating. I’m not a big drinker but enjoying a bottle or two of nice wine with friends is always great!
